[ . . . Jae-ha manages a soft laugh at that, one that doesn't quite reach his eyes.]
... her name's obscured.
I'd think if it's a ruse, even with all the ink, they would leave her name to really convince me that it's her. But I don't need that, since the rest of it sounds just like her. Everything, from her biting words, to the way that she still wants me to look after everyone else...
If it's not really her - I'll have to have a word with whoever wrote this.
... I suppose. I cannot say I like it--the thought that their consciousness is trapped in some sense until this entire farce is over does not sit well with me.
But perhaps it truly will be something we can make the best of.
It's not ideal - but it means that it's something we can use.
I intend to write back to her... and to a few others as well. Do you have anything you suggest I say? Is there anything from your historian meetings worth inquiring about?
If she has any information on how we can properly bring them back, I would ask that. Otherwise, my concern still lies with finding a way to end this that does not involve following their carefully laid plans.
[WHICH IS HARDER TO ASK ABOUT.]
Still, your captain is wise. Any advice she has to give will surely be useful.
Mm, I'm thinking the same. If there's any information that she has that we haven't thought of, she's not the type to keep it to herself. I sent a few other letters - 2B, Yamato [nokami Yasusada whose name is too long so Jae-ha shortened it] - but now I get to play a waiting game and see if they'll respond.
Perhaps there's a delay...? But others seem to be receiving letters, so it might be worth looking into what they're hearing as well.
Have a preference? The ink splots look random - I can't seem to find a rhyme or reason. If it's just bad luck, I'm entertaining the idea of just having the important sentences repeat at the beginning and end.
[that's not a code but you know]
If I go first, and you write to me, shall I confirm that it's me by writing you a love poem?

[LETTERS FROM THE DEAD
and he's gonna have a seat and pour the two of them some tea, hell yeah]
no subject
Who is it from?
[He'll take that tea, at least, thanks.]
no subject
My Captain, presumably.
[And he'll just huff out a laugh before sliding an inky letter over to Sousei.]

He reads it over three times before he sets it gently back on the table, a frown on his face]
... If it is a joke, it is in incredibly poor taste.
[So, reluctant as he is to admit it...he thinks it's real.]

[For what it's worth... he also thinks it's real.]
So we are able to receive letters from the dead. I suppose that is in line with what we have been told--that there will be a way to see them again.

[ . . . ]
I suppose it's better than nothing.

But perhaps it truly will be something we can make the best of.

[...SIGH.
This entire situation is So Much.]
I'm afraid nothing I've experienced has prepared me for the mechanics of receiving letters from the dead.

But rolling with the punches sounds like the best option.
no subject
[Eh.]
The more information we have, the better.

[ . . . ]
Shall we have a code for if one of us passes away and we attempt communication?
no subject
[Or they'll get the whole letter censored, who knows.]
We should begin building that as soon as possible.

Don't even consider it. I will tear it up, and that will make the entire thing a waste.
[A beat, and:]
A simple shift cipher may well work. If the two of us are the only ones aware of what the shift is, then it will be easy enough to decode.
