[It's slipping and Jae-ha notes that. He notes it, along with the expression on Sanji's face, and he raises a brow when he notices the item beginning to slip.
So he does what's automatic.
He reaches out to grab it before it falls so that he can hand it to Sanji, letting his fingers come into contact with the material -
[Sanji's relief is palatable taking the straw hat out of Jae-Ha's fingers, cradling it as if precious --
It's happened enough times that he's not exactly surprised by the bubble surrounding him, but as the scene starts to melt into place, the muscles in his shoulders and back go rigid.
There's a man -- a boy, really -- standing a few paces away, wearing the same straw hat Sanji had just finished taking from Jae-Ha, his mouth bleeding as if he'd just been attacked, and there's a mixture of confusion, fury, and hurt betrayed in his expression.
The reason for that becomes very clear soon]
I apologize for hiding it for so long, but hey, I had my reasons -- didn't need any of you getting an inferiority complex in front of a prince. I get it, not your fault you're all worthless peasants.
[That is clearly Sanji talking, though the memory doesn't show him. However, the perspective shifts, much like a man would be looking down his nose at someone.]
I have the choice between roaming the sea with you buffoons or living the life of glory with the most beautiful woman at my side. I'm sure even the world's biggest idiot can tell what the biggest option is here!
[Around them, a crowd is roaring with laughter and cheers. The only one in shock is an orange-haired woman, a hand covering her mouth as tears start to fill her eyes.]
That letter I wrote was just to soften the blow, my last gift to you -- but shit, you went and ignored you! Sucks to be you, but that's not my fault. If you refuse to leave, I'll just take the trash out where it belongs!
[The screaming reaches to a fever pitch. The crowd wants blood now, and there is a chant of "Prince Sanji" permeating through the grounds. The Straw Hat boy finally speaks:]
-- As if I'll ever believe any of this crap!
[As as the perspective lunges forward to start the fight, the bubble scene abruptly ends.]
[Wow suddenly the castle got LOUD and CROWDED again, both to Sanji's delight and slight stress. He didn't get a lot of sleep this week and honestly he's more than happy to carve out some time for himself, retreating to the kitchen and thunking his head on a counter while he snoozes a bit.
Unfortunately he's not that brutal. So he's going to catch sight of Sanji and quietly exit the kitchen.
End PC.
Just kidding, he's going to grab a blanket from somewhere in the castle and just move to place it over Sanji's shoulders, then quietly continue to make tea like he originally came to the kitchen to do.]
[Sanji isn't a light sleeper, per se, but there's always a part of him keeping track of what's going on outside his dreams, and the soft warmth of the blanket slowly pulls him back into reality. An eye pops open--
He freezes soon after, holding his breath like Jae-Ha might hear him -- then blows out a sigh on purpose because when the hell did he become such a coward?]
... Hey.
[Won't stop him from sounding super guilty, and looking to Jae-ha like he expects punishment]
Actually, I think I'd like to kick you. Zelos got a punch - but you actually had the nerve to cook me something and act like nothing was wrong. And then you killed my partner.
[... He feels himself smile tiredly before shaking his head, a lump in his throat]
I can't.
[...]
I thought about it, heh. Still kinda wanna just go with you.
Shit, it's not like I don't know what's waiting for me back home -- probably death -- but I can't run from the people who are ready to give anything to save me.
[He's so impossible to shake when he finds something that he wants.]
You know I don't exactly have anything I can easily leave behind either. I know almost exactly where I'm going back to... perhaps I might make a small change or two, since I've heard that's possible.
[that he sort of just let it all blow up in his face - jae-ha can't quite understand it. doesn't really know if he wants to. he and zelos and sanji all have their likenesses -
but at some point they stop.
jae-ha has almost no tolerance for betrayal. that's simply what gi-gan taught him]
... stuck between not wanting to force him and not wanting to see him end it, huh?
[idly
jae-ha can't help but notice how easy it was to fall back into this back and forth, discussing the matters of everyone else around them
... perhaps this is why he was never able to stop saying he considered sanji a friend]
[Tone implying Sanji considered it, just stealing Zelos away like a prize for his own good, ready to accept the man's hatred until maybe one day it would cool back into affection.
Sanji's fine with making hard choices. Look at his time spent in the castle.
But he can't stand betrayal anymore than Jae-Ha.]
... I just want him to be happy with whatever choice he goes for.
[Sounding fuckin heartbroken but that is how it goes sometimes.]
